CATASTROPHIC MERMAIDS ON PARADE

Catastrophic Mermaids on Parade is a project from Hop-Frog Kollectiv multi-instrumentalist and founder Hermit the Flog.  Like a distant Moroccan kif-dream, Hermit the Flog and his co-conspirators conjure up non-urban dreambiance from the dreary mundanities of modern existenz.  With a tone influenced by pagan ritual, and the Great Mess (otherwise known as the 21st Century) CMoP's latest live set includes dark analog electronic touches, brute voodoo percussion, beautiful Indian harmonium drones, and projections from a 1970's fever dream.

DYNAMITE CLUB was formed in 2001 by drummer/vocalist Mike Pride (Anthony Braxton, MDC, John Zorn projects, etc.) and Japanese guitarist/vocalist Kentaro Saito.  Their music is a literally and figurative clash of the two cultures- MUSICALLY & PHYSICALLY!  Their first full-length CD "The Legend Of Tiger Mask"- a tribute to the legendary Japanese Wrestler of the same name- included a live wrestling match in the studio & was released in 2002 on New Jersey pop label Big Sleep Records.  Thus began the style that cam to be known as "Retard-Core"...?  The album had surprising success on the CMJ charts and confused, confounded and polarized its listeners, who seemed to either love it, or hate- Dynamite Club themselves are still not sure which side they are on.  In 2003 Dynamite Club released "EP S" on Funhole Records in NYC, and in 2004 released their newest full-length, the pan-directional spoof "It's Deeper Than Most People Actually Think", which reached #5 on CMJ charts and has gather loads of national and international press.  All along the band has been furiously touring the US, Japan (3 times), Taiwan (also 3 times)- where they headline the Taiwanese Lollapalooza SPRING SCREAM and have achieved a level of fame equal to that of a stadium tour rock band in the US(!?), Australia, Canada and all of Europe with thrash-punk legends MDC.

Their live show includes a Japanese guitarist in only his tighty whities (if that), a monster-sized wrestler of a mad-man drummer (known to throw stage high Kung Fu kicks and leg drops on the guitarist mid-set, only then to attack the audience in furious frenzy), and a revolving door of virtuoso bassists.   Bassist #7 is Jesse Krakow (Time Of Orchids, Fast N' Bulbous).  A live Dynamite Club show usually confuses people at the beginning, but by then end of the set audiences tend to be worked into an incredible frenzy themselves and sense, "It's Deeper Than Most People Actually Think"...

AA23 formed during the first half of the 90's in Tempe, Arizona. Only a studio session of 3 tracks remains from that era, one appeared on the "Instant Shoggoth" limited edition cassette put out by Dave Wright's label ( http://carrionsound.com/shoggoth/cassettes.html ). Tim White, Time Barrow, and Anthony Sebring played many live shows at local art galleries in Phoenix and Tucson. The show moved west when founding members White and Sebring moved to Los Angeles, California in 1996. AA23 has performed at a variety of venues throughout Northern and Southern California, and in Arizona - presenting their live sound in varying forms. Very little studio material has surfaced for AA23 and the past few years has seen White playing with The Hop Frog Kollectiv, Not Breathing and Instagon. Also White is working in the studio with Sebring on his own project...originating from his laptop in Baghdad where the songs are uploaded to a mutual site and downloaded at White's studio.

BRIAN REDFERN

Ok, so where do I come from, what do I do? I make experimental, electronic music using an unusual platform. Most people use a mac or windows box for music, but I opt for Linux because I'm able to both get all my software for free, and also do more radical processing with the software I use, terminatorX, than I could with mac/win.  The music I make is influenced by a wide variety of artists. Wendy Carlos was of course a pioneer that can't be ignored, and one must also remember that Karlheinz Stockhausen was one of the first composers to use electronics for music.  Sun Ra has to be my greatest influence. Even though I play solo, I'm still going for that wild spirit of improvisation and that huge sound.  Well I was insane enough to study at CalArts (will work for school loans :-)), learned how to use Csound to compose really radical stuff from Tom Erbe. I studied composition with the Wadada Leo Smith and played guitar in his band, Nda Kulture. I even studied flamenco with Miroslav Tadic, and yes I still play guitar and hope to someday get into creating my own live processing software for guitar.  Culturally I'm very much influenced by the work of occultist Aleister Crowley and others. The world is simply bigger and stranger than we think, and these writings provide an amazing deep pool of inspiration.

Hop-frog’s drum jester devotional is the brainchild of one of the founding members of the hop-frog kollectiv, e.loi, aka Jeremy Morelock and features core members of the hop-frog kollectiv.  Fresh off their European Tour DJD is sure to send you into a trance w/ their midi-eastern, oriental broken beats mixed with post punk and dub.  Don’t know what I mean? Just Listen http://www.myspace.com/hopfrogsdrumjesterdevotional

The hop-frog kollectiv have performed with Not Breathing, DJ Cheb I Sabbah, David J (Bauhaus, Love & Rockets, etc.), Steve Mackay and The Radon Ensemble (The Stooges, Violent Femmes) & Dalek.

hop-frog have not only toured with Backworld (feat. Joe Budenholzer of Current 93, Foetus, etc.) and Sorrow (featuring Rose McDowall of Strawberry Switchblade, Spell, Current 93, Death In June and Coil) on two separate occasions but members of hop-frog have played in both of these projects for the duration of the tours.

The live performances are especially intriguing featuring heavily effected traditional western instruments such as clarinet, violin, guitar, drums, analog and bass fused with eastern, tribal, toy and non-traditional instruments  such as the saz, toy & real accordions, circuit bent keyboards, snake charmer flutes, christmas tree bells, the Dhol, broken cymbals and even a kitchen sink.  hop-frog have performed on several occasions all over Europe and all over the western U.S.
